I write to you today sitting under a tree planted on a plot of grass between a highway and a parking lot. As I chose to sit here thinking it’s probably a weird place to be and wondering what others are going to think, I noticed a bird sitting on a tree branch.
As I watched the bird, I wondered if she was afraid to fly or sing her own song much how I allow myself to feel at times because I’m trying to keep up with the " busy" traffic hoping that I don’t miss anything. Then I watched her fly away with grace, wisdom and confidence trusting in her own wings.
It was an aha moment for me because I realized that even though I’m in a busy location with a lot of noise around me (much like the thoughts in my head), I could still fly like the bird with wisdom and trust in myself. Like birds of a feather we take courage to try new things so our wings can take us higher. The bird does not trust the branch will not break, it trusts instead in her wings to carry her upward.
If you’re like me and your head is filled with the busyness of life and more often then you would like self-doubt comes flying in, then continue reading as we share ideas together to trust in our own wings.
Is there a way to enjoy hearing the bird sing?
One method that works for me is to allow any negative thoughts or self-doubt keep moving without allowing them to sit and linger. I do this by releasing my energy into art. Art has never been an option for me. When I'm not creative for a period of time I get depressed and empty feeling. Art is a very liberating, energizing and invigorating process. As you cultivate wisdom of how to draw and paint you will also bring the wisdom of your heart to the forefront, trusting and finding courage to express that beautiful bird song within as you work on a painting. Being aware helps you keep your tweets on the high note when speaking to yourself and others.
I had to learn to make art. I'm still learning and I hope I never arrive because the journey is as rewarding as every piece I make. Everyone can make art because everyone can draw a line, or paint a color. It's really that easy.
In teaching the art process I find every person enters class with a true need to engage their creative abilities. The process of art is deeply rewarding and uplifting and scientifically unstudied but widely acknowledged as powerful and transformative. It's a door to your creativity to your inner thoughts.
I'm very happy to be in a new business with my partner, Selena, at Metamorphosis Art and Enrichment Center. We're two women with a mission to focus on character development through the process of art as a way for you to cultivate self-awareness and a clearer focus on what matters to you the most. We dump the excuses and challenge assumptions about our abilities. We don't expect to make great artists, but we do create space, time and opportunity for anyone to engage with their creativity.
We're here to support you to connect with and open your heart through the process of making art. We value the insight others bring to the process.
So let the traffic keep moving but find the piece of grass between the highway and the parking lot to write your message, paint your vision, sing your song. It's safe, appropriate, it doesn't hurt anyone and everyone can do it one little step at a time. Join us and share your story, your art and your vision for yourself and those who matter most to you. Let us know how you release those negative thoughts and trust not in the branch holding you but rather your own wings.
